Forsythe Pendleton Jones III - better known to all as JUGHEAD - was part of the 'original gang' when Bob Montana's ARCHIE characters hit comic books in in 1939. Here is ARCHIE'S PAL JUGHEAD #2 , from the first title spotlighting the Riverdale gang's smart, sharp-tongued, laid-back, and eccentric high school student who loves to eat!

Here in ARCHIE'S PAL JUGHEAD you get 4 different 6 to 8 page stories centering on the laconic goofball! All the artwork appears to have been handled by artist George Frese and shows JUGHEAD in misadventures alongside Archie, Betty Veronica, Reggis and other beloved cast members.

"Operation Initiation" shows the ensuing calamities when JUGHEAD is initiated into the 'Lofty Order of Crows'. "Mistaken Identity" recounts that time when JUGHEAD'S Uncle Herman asks him to help demonstrate his new Jekyll and Hyde potion!

"Gorgeous Jug" (the name being a take off on television wrestling's biggest star at the time -Gorgeous George) finds JUGGY dreaming that he is a professional wrestler, and in "The Gay Deceiver", JUGHEAD tricks his friends into going to a beach near a hamburger stand.

This is a good, well-read and enjoyed 72-year-old copy of ARCHIE'S PAL JUGHEAD #2 that still has a solid binding, supple pages without foxing, and good color. There is a 1/2" horizontal tear at the edge of the front cover, and that cover also bears the handwriting of a girl who was proud to own this comic back in 1950! We're grading this a 4.0 VG, the same evaluation the national auctioneer gave it when it was purchase several years ago.
