Created by Paul Norris and Mort Weisinger, the character of AQUAMAN first appeared in _More Fun Comics_ #73 (Nov. 1941) Initially a backup feature in DC's anthology titles, AQUAMAN later starred in several volumes of a solo comic book series. During the late 1950s and 1960s superhero-revival period known as the Silver Age, he was a founding member of the Justice League.

Here is the second issue of his first self-titled series. Jack Miller writes the story of "Captain Sykes' Deadly Missions!", with illustrations by the artist most associated with the Silver Age Aquaman - Nick Cardy! In this book-length tale, AQUAMAN and AQUALAD are forced to find two special legendary items for a Captain Sykes, who explains that he has captured a cargo ship for which Aquaman was searching as well as its cargo and its crew, and refuses to release them to AQUAMAN until he brings back the two items.

They first must ward off normally placid fish that have been made into giants by the release of an undersea gas and prevent them from grabbing the first item. Then they have to vanquish a sea monster protecting an uncharted island to obtain the second item. Taking the items back to Sykes, AQUAMAN refuses to hand them over until he's shown where the missing cargo shop is hidden. After being taken to the ship, AQUAMAN gives over the items to Sykes, but the Captain's evil intentions are revealed and the day is saved!

This is a near-pristine 59-year old comic - the binding is strong, the colors are bright, the covers still have their gloss . . just in top-notch condition.
