You would think the world's first Cro-Magnon boy, born of Neanderthal parents, would be more famous!

But DC's late-1960s title, ANTHRO, didn't really set the world on fire, although his character was beloved by many (including THIS High School fan!). Created written and drawn by HOWIE POST (who previously made a name for himself with funny animal comics), ANTHRO chronicled the adventures of a progenitor of the Human Race in the Stone Age, struggling against warring tribes, rampaging apes, and vicious Ice Age beasts, all while pursuing the girl who has won his heart!

ANTHRO'S father, Neanderthal caveman Ne-Ahn, was the chief of his tribe. Winning two competing cavegirls as his wives, Cro-Magnon women Embra and Nima, Anthro fathers the modern human species, as Embra lives to bear his first child.

Here are the 7 comics comprising the total of ANTHRO's 1960s appearances. SHOWCASE #74, provided a successful tryout for the distinctive character who provided a nice change-up from the steady diet of Superheroes in the tryout title. Howie Post both wrote and drew the 6 issues of ANTHRO, with inking on the final issue by WALLY WOOD!
