Here is Pogo the Possum in his third-ever appearance on the cover of Dell's ANIMAL COMICS #23 from 1946. ANIMAL COMICS ran for 30 issues from 1942 - 1948 and showed the work of a whole parade of stellar animal cartoonists like Morris 'Mo' Gollub, H.R.McBride, Rube Grossman, Dan Noonan, and best known of all - Mr. Walt Kelly!

Kelly does both covers here, as well as contributing 20 pages of interior art in this 52-page issue. Five stories are included - "Uncle Wiggily" (who was the featured character for most of ANIMAL COMICS run) by Gaylord DuBois and H.R. McBride, "Albert and Pogo and The Fountain of Youth" (starring Walt Kelly's alligator and possum who would 6 years later premiere in one of the greatest comic strips ever!), "Rover" by Dan Noonan, "KOKO" by Walt Kelly, and "Rusty and Rowdy" by Dan Noonan. You also get the 2-page text story "Bucky Beaver to the Rescue" with an illustration by the great Mo Gollub.

This is a lovely 77-year-old copy - nice and supple with but faint toning and no creases or missing bits, just a bit of wear on the spine and corners, and 3 or 4 very small tears - a solid 6.0 FN in our conservative estimation.

Overstreet suggests a price of $24 . . we counter-suggest with $18. A great copy, and paired with our L•O•W shipping charges, it's hard to beat!
