ANIMAL COMICS was an 'upscale' classy title in the DELL publishing stable -- the kind of comic apt to be purchased by well-off parents to read to their pampered children. (that's solely MY sense of the audience for this well-produced series!)  Much more money was spent on artists in producing  ANIMAL COMICS in this time period than the standard 'Funny Animal' anthology comics.

Chief among the strong crew of artists on ANIMAL COMICS was the unparalleled Walt Kelly, who introduced his famous POGO cast in an early issue of ANIMAL.  He is represented here in #16 by four stories -  a POGO & ALBERT THE ALLIGATOR tale, a CILLY GOOSE, BLACKIE, and HECTOR the HEN-PECKED ROOSTER -  plus both the front and back covers!

Also herein is H.R.McBride's well-known 'UNCLE WIGGILY' in a 10-page story where the kindly elderly rabbit and UNCLE BUTTER the Goat attempt to take a vacation.

This is a 77-year-old copy that has obviously beenread and enjoyed over the decades, and shows the results of all that handling. The covers have creases and stress lines at the binding, and a very faint line of handwriting along the front top edge. There are bent corners, but no apparent tears or pieces missing. It earns a 5.0 VG/FN from us, which translates to an Overstreet value of $22, which further translates to a mere $13 price tag from us! Throw in our amazingly L•O•W shipping cost, and you'll want to make this copy yours!
