ANIMAL COMICS was one of the more 'upscale - classy' titles in the DELL publishing stable -- the kind of comic apt to be purchased by well-off parents to read to their pampered children. (that's solely MY sense of the audience for this well-produced series!) Much more money was spent on artists in producing ANIMAL COMICS in this time period than the standard 'Funny Animal' anthology comics.

Chief among the strong crew of artists on ANIMAL COMICS was the unparalleled Walt Kelly, who introduced his famous POGO cast in an early issue of ANIMAL. He is represented here in #14 by the appearance of ALBERT ALLIGATOR and CHURCHY LAFEMME the Turtle on the cover, and an ELEPHUNNIES gag page.

Also herein is H.R.McBride's well-known 'UNCLE WIGGILY' in a 10-page story where the kindly elderly rabbit matches wits with MRS. BEAR, tales of BLACKIE, HECTOR THE HEN-PECKED ROOSTER, and CILLY GOOSE!

This is a terrific-looking 79-year-old copy of ANIMAL COMICS #14. The binding is strong, the pages are supple and free of toning, and there are no tears, splits, bent corners, ragged edges or pieces missing. There is the faintest of pencil markings on the cover and a small area of abrasion at the bottom edge.

It earns a 8.0 VF condition for a comic of this age . . which translates to an Overstreet Price Guide value of $82 . . . but we're making it available for only $68!
