Here's an issue from a period of upheaval in the approvals of comic book stories dealing with drug use. Just as with AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #96, this issue was also published without the Comics Code Authority. This is due to the fact that the Code did not approve any instance of illegal drug use in comic book publications at the time. Since Stan Lee's story reflected the drug use in negative light, Marvel published the stories anyway. Due to the stories popularity, it led to the first revision of the Code since it was formed in 1954!

"In the Grip of the Goblin!", SPIDEY battles the GOBLIN while Harry Osborn starts popping pills to deal with the brush-off MARY JANE has given him. Appealing and emotional art by Gil Kane in support of Stan Lee's story. Nice cover by John Romita!

This is a nice solid copy of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #97, with a good binding, supple pages and bright color. The pages have very little toning for a 50-year-old comic, and no foxing. Overstreet prices this issue in a grade of 7.5 VF- at $70 . . . but we think $57 is much more reasonable, and gives you this issue at about 1/10th the price of the only other #97 on HipComic! (And our mere $2 shipping fee is another good reason to take this Spidey home!)
