Item Description
Legendary comic book artist Gil Kane had long made a name for himself on multiple titles at DC Comics from the mid-50s through the end of the 1960s . . and then changed stomping grounds and became a mainstay at Marvel Comics through the end of his career. Here are his third and fourth issues of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN in a brilliant 22-issue run! This two-part story starts off with "To Smash a Spider!", written by Stan Lee, with Kane's pencils inked by John Romita. The story starts at the funeral for Gwen Stacy's father, Police Chief George Stacy, whom many consider was brought to his end by SPIDER-MAN. With most of the city now fearing SPIDER-MAN is a criminal threat - including Gwen herself! - a political foe of George Stacy, Sam Bullitt, running for District Attorney, vows to bring SPIDER-MAN to Justice, making Peter Parker a target and forces him to lay low.
The story continues in #92 with "When Iceman Attacks!". Peter/SPIDEY is able to snatch Gwen away from Bullitt's clutches, but ICEMAN misinterprets the situation and tries to bring SPIDER-MAN down! Eventually, the misunderstandings are resolved, and the two team up to take down the crooked Bullitt.
Beautifully dynamic action by Gil Kane, with Romita's handsome inking!
These are really nice, terrific-looking and solid copies of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #91 and #92, with strong bindings, glossy covers, supple pages and bright color. The pages have very little toning for a 52-year-old comic, and no foxing. Overstreet prices these issue in a grade of 8.0 VF together at $120 . . . but we think $80 is a bit more reasonable! (And our mere $2 shipping fee is another good reason to take these Spideys home!)
