STEVE DITKO, the creator and only artist for Spider-Man comics up to this point, handles both pencils and inks (and supposedly a major plotting assist) for AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #5, the first appearance of Dr. Doom in Spidey's comic!

In "Marked For Destruction By Dr. Doom!", the Latvian despot tries to trick Spider-Man into helping him defeat the Fantastic Four, but when Spidey turns him down, he decides to capture the Wall Crawler. Flash Thompson dresses up as Spider-Man for a prank and Dr. Doom mistakes him for the real Spider-Man and captures him instead, and Flash has to be saved by the real Spider-Man - Peter Parker! 3/4 of the Fantastic Four team make an appearance here!

This is an obviously well-read and somewhat carelessly cared-for copy of SPIDER-MAN #5, with a weak binding, chunks missing and small tears and stress lines. There is a date stamp on the cover, and writing on the title page. But Steve Ditko's cool artwork is unaffected . . and it's like going back in a time machine to see this very early adventure of the young superhero who would become Marvel's biggest star! The pages have normal toning, but no foxing.

Overstreet prices this issue in a grade of 3.0 GD/VG at $336.00 . . . but we think $240.00 is much more reasonable in light of its condition, and gives you this issue at the best price on HipComic - less than HALF of the asking price for the only other genuine copy on this site!!
