Item Description
Although he had been plotting AMAZING SPIDER-MAN issues nearly from the start of its run, this is only the third issue in which STEVE DITKO gets actual credit for plotting the story! And it's a good one - completely illustrated by 'Scowlin' Steve Ditko' himself! In "Bring Back My Goblin To Me!", the GREEN GOBLIN brings in SPIDER-MAN's limp body, much to the surprise of the CRIME-MASTER. As the two criminal masterminds chat with each other, the sleeping gas wears off and SPIDER-MAN tries to wriggle free of his chains. As the gathered mobsters attack SPIDEY, the cops flood in and SPIDER-MAN breaks free and assists the policemen who now have been cornered by the mobsters.
SPIDER-MAN realizes he can’t catch up to the GOBLIN’s glider and instead chases after the CRIME-MASTER, but he loses him in a thick green cloud of nerve gas. CRIME-MASTER plots his revenge but is surprised by the police and in a struggle is shot. He laughs and begins to tell the GOBLIN’s identity, but falls dead before he can.
Finally, we see Peter Parker sewing a new Spider-Man outfit together, while an unmasked GREEN GOBLIN (whose face cannot be seen) swears revenge on SPIDER-MAN.
This is a nice solid copy of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #27, with a good binding, supple pages and bright color. The pages have very little toning for a 56-year-old comic, and no foxing. There is a bit of handwriting on the title page, stress lines near the spine on the front cover, and a few rough edges, but those are the only faults we see. We grade this copy a 5.0 VG/FN, for which Overstreet assigns a value of $105 . . . but we think $75 is a bit more reasonable, and gives you this issue at less than half of the other similarly-graded #27s here on HipComic!
(And our mere $2 shipping fee is another good reason to take this SPIDEY home!)
