Item Description
In "Spider-Man Goes Mad!", Peter's day doesn't start off well as he breaks up a burglary, but can't sell the pictures he took. While trying to hide from J. Jonah Jameson at The Daily Bugle, he spots a letter from Ned Leeds to Betty Brant. Peter becomes jealous and webslings around the city to clear his mind. Jameson gets a visit from Dr. Ludwig Rinehart who tells Jameson that due to a split personality between that of a man and a spider, it's only a matter of time before Spider-Man breaks down. When Peter hears this, he worries he might be going crazy and not know it.Peter turns into Spider-Man, but out of nowhere, Doctor Octopus attacks him but disappears just as quickly. This repeats again with Sandman as well as The Vulture and Spider-Man starts doubting his sanity. He worries that he might start attacking innocent people believing they're criminals so he heads home for rest. When he sees himself in the mirror, he decides not to wait and visits Dr. Rinehart immediately. Even a session with Dr. Rinehart doesn't reassure him. Things spiral out of control -- aided by Mysterio!
Some of Steve Ditko's best penciling and inking on Spider-Man, in my opinion - lots of nice, dynamic poses!
This is a solid copy of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #24, with a good binding holding it all together, and the pages are somewhat dark, but have very little toning for a 56-year-old comic, and no foxing. But there are some chipped and ragged page edges, a sliver out of the cover edge, some creasing, and handwriting on the title page. We grade this copy a 3.5 VG-, for which Overstreet assigns a value of $70 . . . but we think $63 is much more reasonable, and gives you this issue at the lowest price of any other #24 here on HipComic! (And our mere $2 shipping fee is another good reason to take this Spidey home!)
