Just a couple months after possibly the most popular comic book issue of 1973 sent shockwaves through Marvel Fandom with the death of Gwen Stacy, and one month after the death of the GREEN GOBLIN, comes AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #123 with a special guest appearance by LUKE CAGE, HERO for HIRE!

Here in ". . Just a Man Called Cage!", the story picks up right after SPIDER-MAN has killed the GREEN GOBLIN, with the discovery that someone has removed his costume from the dead body, leaving just Norman Osborn's corpse and the assumption that SPIDER-MAN is the killer of an innocent Osborn! An incensed J. Jonah Jameson goes directly to the offices of LUKE CAGE and HIRES him for $5000 to end SPIDER-MAN's life!

The two tangle twice, with SPIDER-MAN a close victor, before agreeing that they are both on the same side. Peter Parker is comforted by Mary Jane Watson after attending Gwen Stacy's funeral . . and LUKE CAGE angrily confronts Jameson and stuffs the $5000 in his mouth!
