Item Description
Young orphan Tommy Troy finds a fly-shaped ring in his grandparents' attic and tries it on, summoning an ancient god of the Fly People!! By rubbing the ring and saying "I wish I were the Fly," he exchanged bodies with the other dimension and became a costumed adult superhero. To return to his own identity, all he had to do was utter his name.Famous Golden Age scripter JOE SIMON dreamt up this scenario, which admittedly owes a bit to the original CAPTAIN MARVEL. The title was successful for Red Circle Comics, and then Archie Comics, and eventually entered the DC Universe when DC bought out Archie's superhero line.
Here is issue #2 of THE FLY, with 5 stories of varying lengths, starring the hero with the abilities of a fly! All 5 were scripted by Simon, and 2 of them were even pencilled by his old partner, Jack Kirby!
In the lead, cover-featured story - "Tim O'Casey's Wrecking Crew" - the great Al Williamson pencils an adventure wherein THE FLY gets involved with a vengeful Leprechaun who claims a wanted man stole the Pot of Gold fortune of a legendary Irishman! The other FLY stories are "One Of Our Skyscrapers Is Missing!", "Marco's Eyes", "The Master of Junk-Ri-La!", and a story featuring THE SHIELD, "Sneak Attack!"
There are also 3 one-page text stories.
This is an amazing-looking 62-year-old Silver Age FLY -- no tears, pieces missing, or abnormal toning. The binding is strong, and the colors are bright. The cover is glossy and bright! It's almost as if it was picked off a newsstand last week! We grade this an 8.5 VF+ . . . which Overstreet values at $315 . . . but we're pricing it at just $275 . . with FREE shipping!
