Item Description
In 1975, DC and MARVEL called a truce from all their sniping, and agreed to produce a few CROSSOVER CLASSICS, featuring match-ups between some of their top characters. Here are two pristine copies of gold-cover reprints of what were originally tabloid-size comics!First out of the gate was SUPERMAN vs. SPIDER-MAN in 1976, with its four-part story, "The Battle of the Century", scripted by Gerry Conway, with art by Ross Andru, Neal Adams, John Romita, and a few other all-stars on inks. In the story, the Daily Bugle and WGBS / Daily Planet staffers arrive at the World News Conference in New York City. At the display of Comlab One, "the world's first orbiting communications laboratory," Lois Lane and Mary Jane Watson appear to vanish in a flash! Lex Luthor and Doctor Octopus are behind the kidnappings in order to draw out their nemeses.
Disagreeing over why both of their their love interests disappeared, Superman and Spider-Man battle over Manhattan, the Web-Slinger having secretly been charged with red-sun radiation by Luthor. But our heroes trace their nemeses to an abandoned railroad yard and then to Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro.
After the villains arrive at the satellite headquarters of the Injustice Gang, Luthor uses a stolen S.T.A.R. Labs device to control the just-launched Comlab One. Spider-Man and Superman tackle their foes in outer space to save their girlfriends!
This beautiful 100-pg issue also contains 4 backstories on the characters, plus behind-the-scenes artwork and other info!
One year later, in 1977, the two publishers again joined ranks and produced the action packed BATMAN vs THE INCREDIBLE HULK, with story and script by Len Wein and gorgeous artwork by José Luis García-López.
In the five-chapter story, "The Monster and The Madman", the Shaper of Worlds enlists the Joker's aid to crush Bruce Banner. Batman, however, has other ideas. Its 68 pages also feature lots of extras.
These are two near-pristine copies of these ground-breaking comics -- no blemishes of any kind! The bindings are strong, the colors are bright. We confidently grade them a combined 8.5 VF+. . . which Overstreet values at $165!! . . . but we're pricing it at more than a third off - at just $100 . . with FREE shipping!
