The Barbarian and the Brain (25 pages)
Dr. Adam Spektor and his secretary Lakota Rainflower see a strange sword cast to earth by a strange lightning storm outside Spektor Manor. They take the oddly lightweight sword with them as they go to a nearby construction site to investigate the finding of a "petrified man." The clay-encrusted figure turns out to be Frankenstein's monster, who is revived by another mysterious lightning bolt. The creature briefly scuffles with the construction crew and disappears into the woods.
Later, back at Spektor Manor, the Doctor finds himself drawn out into the storm with the sword, where another flash of the mysterious lightning somehow brings the barbarian Durak into the modern world. Durak tells Spektor how he had entered an unknown world and discovered a spectacular ruby at the bidding of the Warrior Gods, and had somehow been cast into our world. Upon hearing that his old enemy Xorkon may still live, Durak reveals that his sword, with the power of the ruby, can seek out the presence of evil. Spektor, Lakota, and Durak set out in Spektor's car to track down Xorkon.
Meanwhile, Frankenstein's monster encounters the Silent One and falls under the power of the still-surviving brain of Xorkon. Announcing his intention of having himself transplanted into the body of Frankenstein's creation, Xorkon has the Silent One and the monster take him to Death's-Head Island, where Xorkon's powers are at their peak.
Spektor, Lakota, and Durak trace the fiends to their cave on the island. Spektor and Lakota are besieged by illusory demons as Durak engages in battle with the Silent One. The Silent One is slain, but Durak falls under Xorkon's power. Spektor and Lakota manage to will away the demonic shapes, but are then attacked by Frankenstein's monster. In the struggle, the monster's head is damaged, and Spektor manages to make him realize that Xorkon intends to destroy him. The creature casts the brain of Xorkon into the sea and then attempts to kill Dr. Spektor.
Spektor hurls Durak's sword at the monster, and a strange lightning is called down from the sky, causing an avalanche which buries the monster. Durak regains his will and his sword and vanishes back to his own time, his duty to the Warrior Gods complete.
