A UN team including Diana Palmer has been sent to Bengali to combat a raging jungle epidemic, but despite initial signs of success, the team struggles to break through the resistance from the tribes’ witchmen, whose influence is rapidly on the wane as new healing methods take hold.
Returning to the Deep Woods after the events of The Slave Markets Of Mucar, the Phantom comes to know that the UN team has been accused of sacrilege, because a woman nurse has profaned the worshipped Wambesi statue of Moogoo. Suspecting who the UN nurse might be, the Phantom hurries to save Diana and her colleagues from a gruesome fate in the 'Trial by Fire'...
